Ian Hudson is a prolific artist – read more on this link – who painted this lovely water colour of the cottage from a photograph he took when living at Furzehill in the 1980s. Ian tells us that “the original photo shows the cottage in a derelict state so I decided to show it as it would have appeared when lived in. I hope it is fairly accurate.” The original is safely in private hands but Ian has given permission for The Friends to hold a digital surrogate in the archive.

Ken Doughty painted two watercolours of Hoar Oak Cottage – this one in the daylight and the one below in the moonlight. Ken was a much loved teacher and artist and you can read more about Ken on this link. Ken’s wife kindly gave The Friends permission to hold digital surrogates of Ken’s two paintings in our archive and to share them with others. Original in private hands.

Ken Doughty did this beautiful water colour of Hoar Oak Cottage at night, with the thin light of a slender new moon. Ken’s wife, Margaret, told The Friends that it was a cold, long walk that night and that they carried – and drank! – several thermos of coffee. Original in private hands.

Peter Lorimer of Pighill Heritage Graphics was engaged by the Exmoor National Park Authority to create a ‘heritage interpretation’ of Hoar Oak Cottage after the ENPA had stabilised/lowered the cottage and removed the outbuildings . The Friends were delighted to share with Peter some of our many photos to help in creating his night-time interpretation. Peter has kindly given permission for his digital interpretation to be shared.
